Consider for example, a ‘knot’ (called an ‘ashi’ point, or trigger point) in muscles. This would be a blockage that prevents the correct flow of energy, therefore pain results. By using the needle to promote energy (and therefore, blood) flow to break through the blockage, there will be relief. Obviously acupuncture is ued for more than musculoskeletal issues, but that is the most easily understandable explanation.
